Phillies welcome Durbin back to the bullpen

The Phillies are welcoming back a member of their 2008 World Championship team. Chad Durbin signed a one-year deal with the Phillies, giving them another arm for the bullpen.

Chad Durbin is one of those under-rated relievers. He's put up decent stats, but since he's not a closer or necessarily a set-up guy, he doesn't get a lot of attention.

The Phillies signed Durbin to a one-year deal with a club option for 2014. Durbin's base salary in 2013 will be $1.1-million with an additional $350,000 available in incentives.

Last season, Durbin had signed with the Washington Nationals prior to the season, but was granted free agency at the end of spring training. The Atlanta Braves quickly signed Durbin and he went on to appear in a career-high 76 games for Atlanta with a 4-1 record and a 3.10 ERA and one save.

Since leaving Philadelphia as a free agent following the 2010 season, Durbin has pitched for Cleveland and Atlanta. In Durbins three seasons with the Phillies, he was a combined 11-7 with a 3.62 ERA and three saves.

For his career, Durbin has pitched with Kansas City, Cleveland (twice), Arizona, Detroit and is now making his second stop with the Phillies. He's pitched in 440 major league games, with 75 starts, compiling a 42-47 record and a 4.95 ERA. Recommended Stories
