Hat Trick: Mets Get Swept in Third Double Header

The Mets were swept in a doubleheader for the third time this season and the second time in the past four games, as they lost to the Seattle Mariners in the second game of their doubleheader by the score of 7-0.

Mike Bacsik, who started in place of the injured Pedro Astacio, took the loss for the Mets. He let up two runs in the first against the M's, who are batting over .350 in the first inning of games this season. Ichiro Suzuki led the game off with a single, and scored on Carlos Guillen's double to deep center. Guillen came around on Mike Cameron's basehit.

The Mariners scored again in the second when Ichiro drove in second basemen Willie Bloomquist with a two-out hit. The inning could have ended the at bat before, with Jaime Moyer just beating out a throw from Ty Wigginton after Wigginton stepped on third for the second out of the inning. Moyer was called safe, and it cost Bacsik and the Mets a run.

In the sixth inning, Tsuyoshi Shinjo let a Dan Wilson basehit get by him for the first of three Met errors, and Randy Winn was able to score in addition to Greg Colbrunn's tally.

Jay Bell committed the other two errors of the day. After Bret Boone singled home Bloomquist, Mike Cameron hit a ground ball to Bell at second base. Bell overthrew the ball, and thus Carlos Guillen crossed the plate for the seventh Mariner run.

Cliff Floyd led off the second with a double, but was stranded by Jeromy Burnitz, Jason Phillips and Tony Clark. Mets also had men on first and third with one out, but Jason Phillips, who caught the second game, grounded into a doubleplay despite a dive into first base that made the play there close.

The Mets have Monday off for a travel day, and will being a series with the Texas Rangers at The Ballpark at Arlington on Tuesday.
