Signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent July 4, 2002; signed by Mariners' scouts Bob Engle, Pedro Avila and Emilio Carrasquel.
2004 Highlights:
Split time between High-A Inland Empire and Double-A San Antonio, dominating at both levels as an 18 year old
Went 9-3 with a 2.74 ERA in 15 starts with the 66ers before earning a promotion at the California League all-star break
Faired just as well with the Missions, going 5-1 wth a 3.30 ERA in 10 starts
Combined for 172 strikeouts and 47 walks in 149.1 IP on the season
2003 Highlights:
Made seven starts with Everett and 11 appearances, going 7-2 with a 2.29 ERA
Struck out 78 batters with the Aqua Sox and walked 24 in 55.0 innings
Named to the Northwest League All-Star team
Named Everett's Most Valuable Pitcher by the Seattle Mariners
