Drafted by Montreal in the third round (No. 75 overall) in 2000 ... Traded to Cleveland with INF Brandon Phillips, LHP Cliff Lee and 1B-OF Lee Stevens for RHPs Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew, 6/27/2002.
Recruited to play football (option quarterback) and baseball by University of Washington, but signed multi-million dollar deal with Expos instead. ... Hit .293 in 55 games in first pro season, 2000, in the Class A Gulf Coast League ... Hit .268 with 32 steals at Class A Clinton in 2001 ... Split 2002 between Class A Brevard City in the Expos' system and Class A Kinston after trade to Indians (batting .343 with 14 steals in 47 games after the deal) ... Won the Lou Boudreau Award as the top position player in the Indians' organization in 2003 after hitting .304 with 13 homers, 78 RBI and 10 steals in 128 games at AA Akron ...
