First overall pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 1993 amateur draft... Topped 40 homeruns for three straight years in his final years with Seattle... Signed the most lucrative deal in MLB history on December 11, 2000, a 10-year $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers... Hit .318 with 52 homeruns and 135 RBI in his first season in Texas and .300 with 57 homers and 142 RBI in his second... Won Gold Gloves at shorstop in 2002 and 2003 and won the AL MVP award in 2003 for hitting .298 with 47 homeruns and 118 RBI for Texas... The Rangers, who finished in last place all three years that A-Rod was there, traded him to the Yankees to get out from under the burden of the mega-contract...
