Club sources said he's likely to move into the starting rotation on Friday against Cincinnati in place of Cha Seung Baek, who is likely headed for duty in the bullpen.
Feierabend, 21, had given the Mariners their longest start of the month, 7 1/3 innings, back on June 3 in a win over Texas before Jeff Weaver topped that Wednesday with a complete-game shutout of the Pirates.
The Mariners have won eight of the 11 starts Baek has made for them since he joined the rotation in late April, but he's struggled to get through the first inning, and that's something the Mariners hope Feierabend can correct.
MARINERS 7, PIRATES 0: Seattle needed a starter to step up and give the team a quality start. Jeff Weaver delivered, and then some. After a six-game losing streak dropped the club 7 1/2 games out of first place, Weaver threw a four-hit shutout to beat Pittsburgh, halting the Mariners' slide. It was Weaver's first shutout since the end of the 2005 season.
--C Kenji Johjima, whose slump reached 1-for-23 when a second-inning single was changed to an error, came back with a double and two singles later in the game to turn his game around.
--RHP Jeff Weaver, who threw a four-hit shutout against Pittsburgh, has now thrown 14 consecutive scoreless innings. Weaver, 0-6 with a 10.97 ERA before the game, embraced manager Mike Hargrove after having ended Seattle's six-game losing streak. "He said, 'Now maybe we can get something started,'" Hargrove said. "It was a great performance."
--CF Ichiro Suzuki singled to extend his hitting streak to 15 games and stole two bases, his 21st and 22nd of the season. Ichiro's interleague batting average of .475 (28-for-59) is the highest in baseball this season.
--LF Raul Ibanez delivered his fifth home run. He's homered four times since June 8 after having just one homer in the first 10 weeks of the season. He'd had upper arm and shoulder pain that had inhibited his swing, but he's able to swing more freely now.
--LHP Ryan Feierabend could move into the Seattle starting rotation as soon as Friday in place of RHP Cha Seung Baek.
BY THE NUMBERS: 2.8 -- The average number of runs the Mariners had scored in five games, through June 17, after averaging 7.2 runs per game the previous 19 games.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "You still have to catch the ball and throw the ball -- it's not all that different, except the ball gets there quicker." -- Second baseman Jose Lopez, on playing third in third baseman Adrian Beltre's absence.
3B Adrian Beltre (sore left thumb) left the June 12 game. He sat out June 13-18 before returning June 19.
RHP Chris Reitsma (sore right elbow) went on the disabled list June 11.
RHP Jon Huber (elbow) went on the disabled list retroactive to June 7.
LHP Horacio Ramirez (left shoulder tightness) went on the disabled list May 25. He threw his first bullpen session June 19.
LHP Arthur Rhodes (left elbow) went on the disabled list retroactive to April 1. He had Tommy John surgery on May 2, and he is out for the season.
RHP Mark Lowe (right elbow) had a second surgery on the elbow this spring, a move designed to remove scar tissue. He will throw a bullpen session June 20, and he soon could start a rehab assignment.
