Baseball's Free Agents

Millwood could be the top target (AP)

While 10 other clubs are fighting for a spot in the playoffs or getting ready for postseason action, the Mariners play out the string this afternoon. In other words, it's time to start thinking ahead - to free agency, among other things.

A thin free-agent market across the board won't stop the Seattle Mariners from getting involved in talks for any body that can help tunr the club's woes into a different kind of "W" - so to speak.

Below is a list of the better names in each area in which the Mariners may see a need immediate upgrades. The players are not ranked and there could be others added to this list, depending on how arbitration cases work themselves out.

The M's are not restricted to free agency, however, and the trade targets are for another day - soon.
