Moorhead's Friday Night Gem Leads Sixers
The Mavericks countered with right-hander Chris Coughlin (0-3, 5.91) who did not fair as well, lasting only four innings, allowing six hits and two runs, one of them earned.
The Mavericks bullpen wasn't much help, surrendering 10 runs on 11 hits.
The 66ers had seven of nine batters record a hit Friday night with Wladimir Balentien leading the way. The 20-year-old went 3-for-5 with two home runs and a season high six RBI.
Adam Jones, coming on strong of late, just missed hitting for the cycle, gathering two doubles and a triple on the night to finish up 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Bryan LaHair, the team's RBI leader, kept the pace by getting his 35th and 36th RBI on the year with a 3-for-4 performance that also included a walk for the 6-foot- 5 first baseman.
Matt Rogelstad kept his amazing season going with two more hits, including a doube and a run batted in.
Erick Monzon, returning from the DL, went 4-for-5 at the plate.
Home, Away, Lately, And Other Notes: The Sixers are one of four California League teams with a better road record (11-13) than at home (10-14)... Inland Empire has won seven of 10 and are one of the hottest teams in the league over the past two weeks... While Adam Jones (.293) and Wladimir Balentien (.301) have turned up the heat offensively, leading the Sixers from the middle of the batting order. Bryan LaHair has been a formiddable cleanup hitter and is up to .291 with a team-best 36 RBI. Hitting between the right-handed hitting Jones and Balentien, LaHair's left-handed bat has provided the team with balance in the heart of the order... Former first round pick B.J. Garbe had his seventh multi-hit game of the month of May on Saturday night, going 2-for-4 with a season-high four RBI. Garbe has his average up to .255 after lounging around the Mendoza line all year... Michael Garciaparra returned to the lineup this week after having knee surgery in April and is back in the leadoff spot. Infielder Erick Monzon has also returned to the lineup, giving the Sixers a full roster for the first time since the first two weeks of the season.
What's Up?: The 66ers finish a home series versus the High Desert Mavericks on Sunday before Rancho Cucamonga comes to town for four games to end the homestand.
