Shawn Nottingham owns the league’s best record at 9-2. The southpaw starter out
of Massillon, Ohio, was the Seattle Mariners 13th pick in the 2003 draft.
With 79 strikeouts, Nottingham currently holds the lead in the league. He’s
also first in innings pitched with 80.0 innings of work. Nottingham has
struck out 12 batters in a game twice; first on July 18 against the Eugene
Emeralds in a 7-5 win, and then on Aug. 20 in a 6-1 victory versus the
Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Nottingham was chosen to pitch in the 2004 NWL in
early August, but was not able to participate.
Asdrubal Cabrera, a non-drafted free agent who signed with the Seattle Mariners in
2002, is the NWL’s All-Star shortstop. Cabrera has played solid defense for
the AquaSox in the shortstop position and is currently batting .271 (59x218)
with 39 RBI. The switch-hitter from Venezuela is in the league’s top-ten in
doubles with 16. He’s had three 4-RBI games this season. Cabrera was
also selected to play in the NWL All-Star Game this August, but was unable
to participate.
