Everett AquaSox closer Brandon Moorhead was named the Rolaids Relief Man for the Northwest League in the month of July by Minor League Baseball this weekend and SportsTicker named infielder Eric Blakeley the NWL’s “Batter of
the Week” today.
Moorhead, a right-hander out of the University of Georgia, also earned the Rolaids Relief Man award for the month of June.
A non-drafted free-agent signed by the Mariners this year, Moorhead earned a total of 10 saves in the month of July and broke an Everett franchise record when he recorded his 12th save on July 28 against Tri-City.
Moorhead appeared in 12 games in the month of July, working 14.1 innings. He struck out 15 and allowed two earned runs to finish the month with a 1.26 ERA. The AquaSox closer currently owns a 0.98 ERA (18.1 IP, 2 ER) with 22 strikeouts on the year and leads the NWL with 13 saves. The league record for saves is 23, set by John
Pricher in 1992.
Blakeley, the Mariners’ 21st round pick in the 2002 draft, was awarded the NWL “Batter of the Week” title today by SportsTicker, the official
statistician of Minor League Baseball. In five games during the week of July 28 through Aug. 3,
Blakeley drove in seven runs on seven hits,
including two home runs. His two-run home run on July 31 helped lead the Sox to an 8-5 win against the Eugene Emeralds. Blakeley finished the week with a .412 batting average and an .824 slugging percentage.
