Seattle Mariners' 2010 fourth-round pick James Paxton has been making waves since being promoted to Double-A Jackson. The left-hander was honored this week for his recent performances.

Seattle pitching prospect and Jackson ace James Paxton was honored with the Southern League Pitcher of the Week award for the week of August 1st following the longest outing of his professional career — 6 2/3 innings on Saturday — in which he allowed no runs, only two hits and two walks while striking out 10 in a 2-0 win against Birmingham.

In his six Double-A starts for the Generals, Paxton is 2-0 with a 1.97 ERA and has held opponents to a .212 average and he is leading the Southern League in strikeouts since his arrival (July 3rd).

In his first pro season after sitting out a year and becoming the Mariners 4th round draft pick in 2010, Paxton has combined for a 2.45 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 88 innings pitched at two stops this season. The 22-year old southpaw out of Richmond, British Columbia was selected as a Midwest League All-Star and pitched a scoreless inning for the World Team in the Futures Game in Arizona over the Major League All-Star Break.
